Psalm 8:1, 9

Psalm 8:1, 9 ESV

TO THE CHOIRMASTER: ACCORDING TO THE GITTITH. A PSALM OF DAVID.

O Lord, our Lord, how majestic is your name in all the earth! You have set your glory above the heavens.

Proverbs 11:24-28

Ezekiel 3:27

Majesty in the OT refers to the ‘superiority of something/someone due to superior power or might’.  Glory is, on the other hand, the radiance of God’s excellent character (it is also used as a synonym of ‘honor’ or ‘reputation’, and when used of God refers to the superlative honor due Him). Thus majesty and glory are related but speak to differing aspects of how God relates to His creation.

In our present verse David proclaims that God power or might is vastly superior to all the power and might of the earth, and that His glory is greater than the glory of the stars, and planets, and moon, and even the sun!  Both in power and in beauty God is great and greatly to be praised!

So, with David, praise Him!  It is worth doing and it is good for us!

Praise You Father!

Praise You Son!

Praise You Spirit!

Praising God with you,

Pastor Greg
